A straightforward Wordle week has eased into a straightforward Wordle weekend today. WordleBot says people are solving this one in an average of 3.9 guesses, which is a touch below yesterday’s 4.
A couple of the best Wordle starting words will have made the task even easier today, so make sure you’ve picked a good one.
I’m a Wordle addict who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Wordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my hints and clues to Wordle #595.

Wordle today (game #595) – hint #1 – Vowels
How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?
• Wordle today has two vowels*. (Need another hint? Next I’ll tell you what the first letter is.)
Getting two vowels in a Wordle answer is a lot more likely than getting one; there are 1,336 Wordle solutions containing two vowels, but only 732 that have one.
It’s therefore quite surprising that we’ve not had one since Monday’s CRAVE, with a run of single-vowel games following that.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
Wordle today (game #595) – hint #2 – first letter
What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?
• The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is U. (Want a third hint? I’ll also tell you if there are any repeated letters.)
U is not a particularly common starting letter in Wordle, with only 33 answers beginning with it. It ranks 20th in this regard, and is the least common vowel to start an answer.
We last had one more than 50 games ago, when USUAL was the answer to Wordle #543 on December 14, 2022.
Wordle today (game #595) – hint #3 – repeated letters
Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?
• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle. (I’ve got one more hint if you need one below.)
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

Wordle today (game #595) – the answer
The answer to today’s Wordle, game #595, is… UNLIT.
If yesterday’s game (see below) was a disaster for me then Wordle today wasn’t quite so bad. I managed to solve it in 4/6, a tiny bit above the global average of 3.9, according to WordleBot.
My luck score of 54 tells a particular story, though – this could have been a 3/6 if I’d been a little more fortunate.
My choice of starting word certainly didn’t help. I switched to STARE today, and got just a yellow T for my troubles. WordleBot said I had 119 possible solutions remaining, which is about 100 too many for comfort!
WordleBot’s favored SLATE was much more helpful; anyone playing that would have had a mere 16 solutions to whittle down. But SLANT, another of its top choices, would have left just 3!
My second guess was reasonably successful. I knew I wanted to include two more vowels, while C is the second most common starting letter after S, so it made sense to play that too. T is most common at the end of a word – it actually ranks third in this regard – so adding an L gave me CLOUT.
WordleBot liked this well enough, and rightly so: it turned up a yellow U and L, and confirmed a green T at the end.
I now had just four possible solutions left: BUILT, GUILT, UNLIT and QUILT. I didn’t know this at the time, of course, but I did spot that BUILT, GUILT and QUILT were all options. If I’d looked a little harder maybe I’d have found UNLIT too, but I’m pretty sure I’d have played BUILT anyway – B is the third most common starting letter, after all.
That wasn’t to be, but I could now see that UNLIT was my only option and duly scored a just-about-par 4.
Wordle yesterday (game #594) – hints

Wordle yesterday (game #594) – the answer
The answer to yesterday’s Wordle, game #594, was… TASTY.
Well, I really messed this one up. WordleBot says this one has an average of 4 – so right in the middle for the game. Yes, it has a repeated T, but I really should have been able to solve this one in fewer than 5 guesses.
What’s more, my game got off to a good start: CRATE left me with just 22 possible solutions, whereas I still had 77 to whittle down on Thursday and managed to get it in 4/6.
Other start words would have been better still: SLATE, WordleBot’s favorite, left just 6 possible answers, and STARE wasn’t too far behind on 12.
But I’m not complaining, because CRATE gave me a yellow A and a green T, which is pretty good. It was my second guess that was poor, not my first.
The mistake I made was to look at that T sitting in position #4 and think ‘Ah, it probably has an H after it.’ And in some games it might well have done – there are 36 Wordle answers that end TH, making it the 15th most common ending combination.
However, based on what else had been ruled out, that wasn’t the case. In fact, FAITH was the only TH word it could have been at this stage. Far more likely was a TY ending, which could have given me NASTY, SALTY, PASTY, MALTY, TATTY, AUNTY, HASTY, FATTY or indeed TASTY.
I realised my mistake on the third go and guessed SALTY. This pointed the way towards one of three answers: NASTY, PASTY or TASTY. I could have narrowed it down for a guaranteed 5, but instead tried to salvage a 4 and failed with NASTY, before finally scraping home with a 5/6 anyway.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website (opens in new tab) or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS (opens in new tab) / Android (opens in new tab)), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
