What is delusion week? TikTok trend deluding people into self-improvement

A

new TikTok trend is encouraging people to become better versions of themselves through the power of delusion.

You may have heard of “lucky girl syndrome,” the self-improvement method where people tell themselves that they are lucky in the hope of attracting good luck as a result.

Similarly, “delusion week” is the latest self-care trend taking over social media that uses the power of manifestation (and action) to allow believers to become the best version of themselves.

If you want to embrace the trend and try to change your life in only a week, find out how below.

What is delusion week?

Delusion week encourages people to act like the “hottest, most successful version” of themselves for only seven days.

It’s about changing your lifestyle and daily habits to align with what you imagine a better version of yourself doing.

Self-care is also a big part of delusion week. It could be about waking up earlier, exercising more, or making time for hobbies.

The idea of changing these habits for only a week is to align with the idea that success doesn’t happen overnight, but can be achieved with subtle, consistent changes. A week-long challenge should also feel more acheivable than committing to long-term change.

Where did delusion week originate?

TikTok creator Kaylin Mally created the idea.

Mally first revealed the concept in January. She said that before making any decisions, she would consider what the best version of herself would do.

A week later, Mally shared an update, revealing that it made her feel “so powerful.”

One creator who tried the challenge is Danielle Walter, who reported several subtle improvements after seven days.

Walter said she saved a lot of money by not eating out as much as she used to. She also became used to waking up early and said she felt better for not having chores waiting for her to do.

How to try delusion week

Anyone can try delusion week. However, as everyone’s personal circumstances and goals will be different, no one delusion week will look the same.

But before you begin, try to envisage what the “hottest, most successful” version of yourself looks like. Do they go to a pilates class at 6am? Or maybe they try to go for a jog once a week?

They might make more time for self-care, whether that’s spending time on your skincare routine or getting your nails done. It could be about eating out less and cooking more, or trying to vary your diet.

The best version of yourself may make time to read before bed or for a long-forgotten hobby. They could see their friends more often, or make an effort to try something new.

They might live in a space with no mess or clutter, and may have only items they actually wear in their wardrobe.

Once you have an idea of what this version of yourself looks like, give yourself a week to incorporate these habits into your daily routine. It’s only seven days of trying out a new routine. But with a little effort, it might just stick.
