Verizon has become one of the leaders in offering new options for cord cutters to completely break free from cable TV companies. Not just from the TV service they offer but also from the internet service they provide. This movement into cord cutting 2.0 has rapidly sped up in 2023, and now Verizon says it plans to expand its 5G Home Internet service into new markets.
This week Verizon President of Global Networks and Technology Joe Russo spoke at the Wells Fargo 7th Annual TMT Summit COnference. During that talk, he was asked about how many subscribers Verizon can add it its 5G Home Internet service and if the 350,000 to 400,000 new subscriber goals per quarter were realistic. “We think we have a long runway to continue that level of performance each quarter,” said Russo. “As we use the spectrum we’ve already deployed and start to expand into new markets.”
This is great news for customers who are currently living in areas where Verizon does not offer its 5G Home Internet service in. As this move could bring new internet options to millions of people who currently may have only a few to pick from right now.
This also comes as Verizon recently announced it has completed an effort to improve its 5G service. With this new improvements, Verizon can now roll out upgrades to its network now with no downtime. This will offer the ability for Verizon to reduce called drops, improve network resiliency security, and, more importantly, for many cord cutters bring new features to its 5G Home Internet service.
“This has been one of the biggest transformations in our company’s history, and our goal through the entire process has been to introduce the most advanced technologies available while making the changes as transparent as possible for our customers,” said Adam Koeppe, SVP of Network and Technology Planning at Verizon. “With the changes we’ve made to the bedrock of our networks, we are able to very efficiently manage our network and rapidly deploy enhancements for our customers without interrupting their services, leading to greater reliability, enhanced services, and higher customer satisfaction.”
With this move, Verizon will be able to roll out network upgrades, including ones to help its 5G Home Internet service even faster. In the past what could have taken months to do can now be done in hours or days. This means the downtime will be reduced or completely eliminated as it rolls out upgrades.
