THERE’S a little-known “black sand” beach in the UK that not many people know about but it’s loved by families.
Finding a beach with untouched sand during the school holidays might sound impossible, but plenty of places actually do exist.

One of those is Aberdour Black Sands Beach, which is a small sandy beach in Fife in Scotland.
The little-known beach gets good ratings on TripAdvisor with a 4.5/5 star rating from only 40 holidaymakers who’ve visited its sandy shores.
One recent review read: “Whenever we are in Aberdour we always walk down to this fabulous beach.”
Another wrote: “We visited the beach as a family of five, while on holiday to Edinburgh. It’s an absolutely beautiful beach with plenty of room for everyone.”
A third added: “A lovely, unspoiled, small, and quiet beach overlooking the Firth of Forth.”
Holidaymakers have also raved about the little-known beach on TikTok too.
TikTok user Samantha Galloway, who is known as samanthagalloway87 on the social media platform, posted a video about her recent trip to the beach.
A caption over the video read: “A day of fun in Aberdour Black Sands Beach, it’s one of my favourite places.”
In the footage, Samantha and her family frolicked on the sandy beach and spent the day exploring rock pools too.
Aberdour Black Sands Beach is situated in Fife in Scotland and is an ideal spot for relaxing and swimming.
Despite being called Black Sands Beach, the seaside spot doesn’t actually have any black sand.
While the sand is darker in some places, with spots appearing to be dark grey, most of the sand is dark brown in colour.
The small seaside spot is dog-friendly and there are toilet facilities on the beach too.
A short walk away from the sandy beach lies Aberdour Harbour with boats and an old wooden pier.
Other attractions in the local area include Aberdour Castle and Gardens and St Fillans Church.
The beach can be easily reached via a 30-minute train from Edinburgh Waverley, with return tickets costing £14.80 for a full-paying adult.
Holidaymakers can also drive to the beach, which is an hour away from Edinburgh in the car.
While accommodation options are limited, travellers can book a one-night stay in the Aberdour Hotel & Stables Rooms with prices starting from £108 per night based on two people sharing a room.
