Humor and mischief are afoot in West Point, with the opening of the Blue Mountain Theater’s spring production, “The Foreigner.”

“The Foreigner” is a two-act comedy set in a quaint fishing lodge located in rural Georgia. The plot follows two English friends, Charlie and Froggy, who are guests at the lodge. Charlie, a demure science-fiction editor, is stricken with depression over his ill and unfaithful wife and has gone temporarily mute. His bold best friend, Froggy, a military man with a penchant for explosives, explains to the other guests at the lodge that Charlie can’t speak because he is a “foreigner.” Charlie keeps up the ruse and as a result, the guests assume he cannot understand English and unknowingly reveal their deepest, most scandalous, and hilarious secrets.

A series of comedic events and a happy ending offset the heavy topics tackled — greed, racism, infidelity, deceit — in this quirky, award-winning play written by Larry Shue. Actors Brian Renfro, Dana Cohen, Kent Hermanson, Craig Lafargue, and Jeremiah Gray star in the play, directed by Vicki Snead-Hinkell.

The show runs through June 3, with Friday and Saturday evening showings at 7:30 p.m. and matinees on Sunday, May 21, and Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased at Danielle’s Hair Design at 347 Main Street in West Point.
