The attraction, which is still in the planning stages, will be located in Lee Valley Regional Park in Enfield, north London.

Developers are planning to transform 100 acres of the regional into a paradise for surfing enthusiasts.

Despite being a Green Belt Site, Lee Valley Regional Park has been used for leisure purposes since the 1970s.

According to the Wave London website, the area has also been identified as a “Major Development Site within the Green Belt”, meaning there’s an opportunity to improve the site’s sports and leisure facilities.

The attraction will be split into five different activity zones, including a surfing lake, an activity zone, a lakeside parkland, a canal corridor and an area for camping and accommodation.

The surfing lake will be suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to surfing professionals, with a wide range of other water sports also set to be hosted at the venue.

There will also be plenty of green spaces, cycling tracks and cafes surrounding the water.

Wave London currently doesn’t have a set opening date, and other details, such as prices and opening times, have yet to be revealed.

Until Wave London opens, holidaymakers will be able to catch a wave at Wave Bristol.

When Wave Bristol first opened in 2019, it became the first inland surfing destination of its kind in the country.

The ‘tropical waterpark’ in the UK getting a £13m expansion

The 180m is filled with 26million litres of water and creates 1,000 waves an hour.

Waves at the site, which has six different surfing zones, range from nearly 20in (50cm) to more than 6ft (2m) high.

The £25m project was first announced announced in 2010 by founders  Nick Hounsfield and Craig Stoddar, who wanted to tackle mental health issues with the joy of surfing.

Wave Bristol has been praised by visitors on TripAdvisor, with a 4/5 star rating from nearly 500 reviews.

One person wrote: “Such a great place, it was my first time surfing and I had a really good time.”

Someone else wrote: “We had a great experience at the Wave. Lovely facilities, staff are nice and welcoming, and the whole place is really well run and clearly looked after.”

Other new water attractions

There are plenty of other water attractions opening in the UK, including Emerge Surf – a new £50million surfing park near Coleshill in North Warwickshire.

The main attraction will be a 5.4acre surf lagoon WaveGarden, creating 1,000 waves an hour up to two metres tall, along with lessons and rentals.

An urban beach would also be created, which will be the largest in Europe.

There will also be an outdoor heated pool, as well as a skateboarding track and outdoor playground.

Restaurants, a coffee shop, retail stores and a co-working space would also be on-site.

similar £55million attraction will open near Edinburgh this year with a beachfront and surf lagoon.

Also similar is the £50million The Seahive in Deal near Kent, which will have a wave pool, splash area and hotel.

The Seahive founder Jim Storey said he created the project due to Kent’s lack of surf, despite it’s long coastline.

He said: “Kent is not renowned for its surfing at all, in fact, a lot of people who love surfing drive six hours to Cornwall or hop on a flight somewhere abroad.”
