Startup to Scaleup | Focus on Eggoz, a startup that brings chemical-free, farm-fresh eggs to your kitchen – Editorji

No amount of exercise can fully impact your body without a healthy diet. And when it comes to protein sources like eggs and chicken, opting for chemical-free options is crucial.

To talk more on egg-industry and how does it work, Avni Raja from editorji interviewed Abhishek Negi, Co-founder and CEO of Eggoz, a prominent egg brand in North India.

ABOUT EGGOZ

Eggoz is a Gurgaon-based company founded by the alumni of IIT Kharagpur. Eggoz is the first consumer-focused and integrated farmer egg brand in India. It’s a brand that sells fresh, chemical-free eggs fully integrated from farms. Eggoz is on a mission to redefine the way people consume eggs.

EGGOZ PRESENCE

Eggoz primarily targets core markets such as Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. Additionally, it is available in Jaipur, Chandigarh, Indore, and Lucknow through its hub-and-spoke model. Furthermore, Eggoz products can also be found in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Chennai.

EGGOZ: THE BUSINESS MODEL

Speaking to Abhishek Negi about the business model, Negi said that Eggoz operates through a hybrid model, selling eggs both online and offline. He further added that they collaborate with farmers using a tech-enabled approach, offering herbal hen feed and veterinary guidance. ”Our eggs are produced exclusively with 100% herbal feed, ensuring better nutrition value for consumers” he added.

EGGOZ: PROFITABILITY & PRICE POINTS

On price points and profitablity, Negi said Eggoz offers eggs priced at ₹9 each, compared to ₹7 for loose eggs, with their premium, fortified variant being the top-selling option. Negi further added that branded eggs are also available to consumers at a price range of ₹8-9.

BROWN VS WHITE EGGS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE

When asked about from a nutritional perspective, Negi mentioned that there is only a marginal difference between white and brown eggs. ”It’s just that the birds are different, the brown birds lay brown eggs. Other than that, from a consumer perspective, there is hardly any difference between the two” Negi added.

FERTILISED VS UNFERTILISED EGGS

Negi said if we look at the overall egg market, majority of the eggs would be unfertilised, even if you try and hatch them, they won’t hatch. He also said that poultry hens keep laying unfertilised eggs on a regular basis.

Going on further, Negi added that only if a hen mates with a rooster, does it lay fertilised eggs. However, fertilized eggs are a different business and value chain altogether. ”The fertilised eggs are allowed to hatch and then the chicks are sold. As far as Eggoz is concerned, all our eggs are completely unfertilised” he added.
