THQ Nordic has just announced South Park: Snow Day!, a new installment of the South Park video game series that’s coming to PC and consoles in 2024.
On Friday, the game was officially unveiled with an announcement trailer, which has since been shared online by South Park Studios. As the new trailer suggests, the game takes place on a snow day, revealing Eric Cartman declaring as much while wearing his Grand Wizard King costume. The trailer also teases the multiplayer elements of the new game, which is a co-op multiplayer game. Up to four players will be able to play simultaneously as they battle their way through the “snow-piled streets of South Park on a quest to save the world and enjoy a day without school.”
South Park: Snow Day! is developed by Question Games (The Magic Circle, The Blackout Club). It comes as the latest game of several based on the long-running Comedy Central series, which has video game adaptations dating back decades. Perhaps the most notable up to this point are 2014’s South Park: The Stick of Truth and its 2017 sequel, South Park: The Fractured but Whole. Both published by Ubisoft, the former was developed by Obsidian Entertainment while Ubisoft San Francisco developed the latter. The most recent game to be released inspired by South Park was the 2017 mobile game South Park: Phone Destroyer.
South Park Returns to the Video Game World
Returning to video games is just another way for the South Park franchise to continue its success. Since originally launching on Comedy Central in 1997, the animated series has been one of television’s most popular shows. It’s already been renewed through at least 2027, so it’s not going anywhere for a while, even after 26 seasons on the air.
Several Games Were Announced by THQ Nordic
The upcoming South Park game was also one of many announcements to be made during THQ Nordic’s digital showcase. Also officially announced was a video game adaptation of the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series, TMNT: The Last Ronin. Other announced titles include a Gothic remake and Titan Quest 2, while new trailers and gameplay footage were released for other games like Outcast – A New Beginning, Alone in the Dark, and Wreckreation.
South Park: Snow Day! will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in 2024.
