Should I sell SBI Flexi Cap Fund?

I have been investing in SBI Flexi Cap Fund since the last 1.5 years. I have already invested Rs 10 lakh. The fund is not performing as per my expectations. Should I sell it?

First, one year is too short a time-frame to judge the performance of an equity mutual fund scheme. Stocks can be extremely volatile and risky, especially in the short term. That is why it is not wise to judge the performance of your equity schemes based on its performance in a year. You need to give time to your investments to perform.

Flexi cap schemes are recommended to moderate risk-takers to achieve their long-term goals. Make sure you are investing for your long-term goals and you are ready to take moderate risk.

You have not shared your reasons for choosing SBI Flexi Cap Fund. It is an average scheme. The scheme has struggled to beat its benchmark and category in 2020, 2021, and 2022. However, it has performed better than its benchmark this year. As said earlier, one year is too short to judge the performance of your equity investment. You may continue to monitor the performance of the scheme and take a call after giving it some more time.

If you do not follow the basics of mutual funds, you need to hire a mutual fund advisor. Gain some knowledge and experience before taking care of your investments. Always remember that investment decisions should be taken carefully as they involve costs, you may have to pay loads and taxes.
