“The Maratha community has worked for the welfare of all. However, when we are trying to board the ‘reservation bus’, which is our right due to social and educational backwardness, we are being pushed out by communities that are already enjoying the benefits of reservation. “When a student or a job seeker uses the provision (reservation) and it is challenged by a rival, at that time no amount of social or political support can help him if the legal provisions in the notification are weak or have loopholes. Adverse judgments in individual cases also affect the entire community. Hence, it is important that the notification should be brought out after due consideration,” added Kondhre.
Morcha leaders said they decided against giving a bandh call considering the ongoing festive season. “It (bandh) would have an adverse impact on trade. However, on Thursday we will stage a token hunger strike at Tilak Statue near Mahatma Phule Mandai in Pune from 10 am to 5 pm to press for our demands,” said Adekar.
