CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz has confirmed the the details about the global outage on Friday to News18 Tech that has affected millions of Windows and Microsoft customers. He has talked about the details of the issue that has taken Windows systems offline and also assured Mac and Linux users about their safety from this incident.

CrowdStrike CEO Confirms Outage Details

In the official statement to News18 Tech, Kurtz has assured that the outage faced by CrowdStrike on Friday was neither a security incident nor a cyberattack. He points out that the issue was caused by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Kurtz also mentioned that Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted by the CrowdStrike issue, which seems in line with the reports from Windows and Microsoft customers mostly coming in throughout the day.

He also talks about identifying the issue, isolating it for further investigation and deploying the fix for the issue is on its way. “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.”

Since most of the services at banks, airports, and even emergency networks run on Windows systems, CrowdStrike advises them to connect with their local contacts at the security company to get this issue sorted. “We further recommend organisations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilised to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”

Kurtz doesn’t specify the issue that caused this massive global outage but it seems the company is fully involved in getting millions of systems back online at the earliest.
