Netflix Inc. has made progress in casting more women and Black actors in major roles in recent years, but diversity is still lacking behind the camera in the making of many of its films and TV shows, according to a new report from the company and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.
In the aftermath of the 2020 police killing of George Floyd, Netflix and other large companies pledged to invest more in inclusion efforts and expand opportunities for people of color and other underrepresented groups. The report found that Netflix has made strides in some areas, like increasing the representation of girls and women on screen and increasing the percentage of its films and series with a Black lead or co-lead.
