Kids pledge to 'say no to drugs' at Sames Auto Arena event – Laredo Morning Times

More than 6,000 sixth graders from the Laredo and United independent school districts took a pledge to say no to drugs during the 13th Annual Drug Awareness Concert at Sames Auto Arena.

“Thank you to my staff who helped put it together and to both school districts for allowing their students to participate,” Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said.

Cuellar added that this was a great time to learn about the importance of saying no to drugs during the first Drug Awareness Concert since COVID-19.

“I am so proud to say it was a success. I could feel the energy from the students that joined us for a great cause. A big thank you to the teachers, Bottom Line Band, guest speaker Marc Mero, Miss Laredo Megan Ochoa, Miss Pre-Teen Laredo Priscilla Gonzalez, Miss National Elite Gisselle Martinez, and professional wrestler Jay Alexander for motivating the students,” Cuellar said.

Former professional wrestler turned motivational speaker Marc Mero delivered a message of love and compassion.

“I was blessed to be the keynote speaker to thousands of students in Laredo, Texas. My hope is that lives were changed, hearts were healed, and in some way, I was able to make a difference,” Mero said.

“If you’re going through a hard time please talk to someone. Don’t hold it in. You are stronger than you realize. It’s through these struggles, we find our strength. Never give up.”
