Farmers' Almanac winter 2023 prediction for Brockton area – Enterprise News

After an unusually uneventful 2022-23 winter season, residents southeast of Boston can expect an un-burr-lievable amount of snow this year, according to the Farmers’ Almanac winter 2024 extended weather forecast.

“For those of you living along the I-95 corridor from Washington to Boston, who saw a lack of wintry precipitation last winter, you should experience quite the oppositive, with lots of rain/sleet and snowstorms to contend with,” the Almanac wrote on their website. “The ‘brrr’ is coming back!” adds editor Pete Geiger.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season.

How does the Farmers’ Almanac predict the weather?

A trusted institution for more than 200 years, the Farmers’ Almanac bases their extended weather forecasts on a mathematical and astronomical formulation developed by David Young, an astronomer, mathematician, and the Almanac’s first editor.

The formula, which was developed in 1818, has changed very little over the years and takes into consideration sunspot activity, tidal action of the moon, and the position of the planets, they wrote on their website.

When will the first snow fall in Brockton?

Last year, the city’s first snow fell late in February, dumping a measly two to three inches in the Brockton area. This year the snow is predicted to come much earlier.

December 2023 is forecast to be quite snowy, bringing blizzard conditions — and the hope a white Christmas— to the northeast.

How cold and snowy will it be?

“There are indications that an El Niño, an unusually high-water temperature off the Pacific Coast of South America, will be brewing in the latter half of 2023, lasting into the winter of 2024,” they wrote. “If we consider that alongside our tried-and-true forecast formula, it means that cold temperatures should prevail.”

Except lots of snowstorms, sleet, ice, and rain, especially in January and February, they wrote.

When should I plan a ski vacation this year?

According to the Almanac’s weather advisories, snowfall should be particular heavy in the second week of January and February. And don’t except a short season — the first week of March and the third week of April will also bring heavy snows to the East Coast.
