E-sports are “booming in India” due to the prevalence of mobile phones and low-price mobile internet connections, he said.
The transition of gaming from bigger screens of gaming consoles and televisions to mobile phones coincides with the growth of mobile phones and the arrival of Apple’s iPhones, Staes-Polet said, adding that in the future, almost all of the games will have to be released for mobile screens as well.
As technology progresses, the 30-year-old company, which has 50 offices globally and employs close to 4,000 people, will come out with games that offer a more immersive experience to the players. These games will be built largely using the gaming engines being developed by the company, said Staes-Polet.
The technological prowess of Unreal Engine has also been harnessed by creators, designers, architects and movie makers who have started adopting them for their own industries, he said.
“So, now we have broad adoption, from architecture to film. We have some of the latest films here in Bollywood that have used this (Unreal Engine) technology,” said the company’s managing director.
