CoinFund Chris Perkins Appointed to CFTC's Global Markets … – Tech Business News

CoinFund President Chris Perkins has been appointed as a representative member on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)’s Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC) as a crucial step in engagement between the crypto industry and regulators

CoinFund will be among one of the first cryptonative financial institutions represented on the GMAC, joining representatives from traditional finance players such as J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock.

Prior to joining CoinFund, Perkins served as Global Co-Head of Futures, Clearing, and Foreign Exchange Prime Brokerage (FXPB) businesses at Citi.

He was also responsible for delivering leading listed derivative electronic and voice execution, comprehensive central clearing and #1 ranked OTC Clearing and FXPB services to top institutional clients.

Appointed as the Global Head of FXPB in 2018, he worked closely with numerous global regulators to architect and execute a comprehensive restructuring and integration plan across multiple geographies.

Before to joining Citi in 2008, he served as the U.S. Head of Derivatives Intermediation at Lehman Brothers.

Perkins says the crypto industry needs to be engaged with regulators, policy makers, related stakeholders and needs to be transparent and predictable.

“Principles-based regulations that empower entrepreneurs to innovate onshore, protect investors, thoughtfully manage risk, and acknowledge the differences between centralised and decentralised finance,”

“As policy makers and regulators intensify their focus on enabling responsible innovation across the space, our representative membership on the GMAC will be crucial to ensure that regulators appreciate the generational opportunity that web3 presents.” said Perkins

CoinFund is now the first cryptonative establishment to be appointed to the Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC), along with Stellar and Uniswap.

The GMAC is one of five committees supervised by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Its main task is to offer the CFTC guidance on matters that might influence the validity and competition of US markets and businesses in the global arena.

This includes delivering suggestions to enhance both domestic and foreign regulatory systems. CoinFund’s membership of the GMAC is an indication of the rising regulatory attention on cryptocurrency by the CFTC and other regulators in the US and abroad.

According to Jake Brukhman, CEO and Managing Partner of CoinFund Regulatory clarity and effective policy within web3 are a crucial step towards US competitiveness in the global markets for technology innovation.

“Chris’ membership on the Global Markets Advisory Committee is another step in CoinFund’s commitment to productive engagement with regulators and policymakers, as well as an attempt to give a voice to our portfolio of over 100 companies in the space,” said Brukhman

“Our position as one of the first cryptonative financial institutions on the GMAC, coupled with our recent appointment of Chris Giancarlo, the former CFTC Chair, as a Strategic Advisor exhibits our commitment to crypto regulation and policy.” he said.
