California Judge Lets Tesla Off The Class Action Autopilot Hook

The plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claimed their agreements were unenforceable, but District Judge Gilliam rejected this idea.

Data from the NHTSA shows that Tesla’s Autopilot has been linked to 736 crashes and 17 fatalities since 2019, and Tesla owners from all over the world are disgruntled with the technology. In Germany, a Model X owner was reimbursed with most of the $114,000 she spent on her vehicle after a Munich court ruled that Autopilot was a “massive danger” to road users and other motorists.

On numerous occasions, Elon Musk’s company has been accused of falsely advertising Autopilot, with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission looking into unsupported claims about the driver assist and the Full Self-Driving system.

Let’s see if anything will come of the arbitration claims, but without the fear of a large-scale court case, there’s no doubt that Tesla has dodged a massive PR and legal bullet.
