Aston Martin DBS Successor Starts Showing Aggression

Key Takeaways

  • Aston Martin DBS successor spied with production taillights.
  • Clearer view of headlights shows Vantage influence.
  • Rumored to adopt Vanquish name after mid-engined Vanquish project was canceled.

The successor to the Aston Martin DBS appears to be all but ready for introduction to the public, with these new spy shots revealing a lot more of the final production design. The DBS successor may get a more exciting name after plans for a mid-engine Vanquish supercar were dropped, but whatever it’s called, it will be loosely based on the Aston Martin DB12.

Like that car, it will have a vastly improved infotainment system than before, but unlike that car, the DBS is expected to get a V12 engine once more, with two turbochargers and 5.2 liters of capacity. The DBS 770 Ultimate developed 759 horsepower before retiring the nameplate; could its successor breach 800? Our spies have been told just that.

Aggressive Design

The last spy shots we captured showed a considerably more concealed body, but this time, there’s far less camouflage around the headlights, allowing us to see just how similar they are to those of the Vantage (no bad trait). More importantly, we can see the production taillights for the first time, and they’re very similar to those of the DB12.

Hallmark left without explanation this morning, and now we know where he’s headed: Amedeo Felisa’s office.

We can also see a quad-exit exhaust, but we can rest assured that the production car will have prettier finishers. A vented hood and vented front fenders are to be expected, but it appears that there may be a vent below each taillight, too. Interestingly, this appears to be functional, but we’ll have to wait for the reveal to be certain.

Interior Unknown

As we touched on above, Aston Martin has completely overhauled its infotainment experience for the better, but it’s about to get even better. Like the latest Cayenne and Panamera did for Porsche, the DB12 will debut next-gen Apple CarPlay for Aston Martin.

Although we have a good idea of what to expect, our spy photographers still haven’t got close enough to the car to provide any insight on the cabin design, but if the Vantage and DB12 are any indication, the DBS successor will be just fine.
