Amazon reveals new Echo speakers but also a big reason not to buy them

There are now three new Echo smart speakers joining the already expansive lineup with Amazon unveiling a trio of updates earlier this week. The latest devices include a completely new model to the range simply called the Echo Pop. This entry-level boom box includes a semi-sphere design along with the impressive AZ2 Neural Edge processor and a front-facing directional speaker that’s loud enough to fill small rooms with sound

It gets all the usual Alexa features, such as setting timers and checking the weather, and it costs £44.99 which is a pretty decent price. In fact, it’s now one of the cheapest ways to plug an Echo into your home.

Alongside the Pop, there is also a refresh to the Echo Show 5 which now gets bigger sound, more wall-shaking bass and 20 percent more processing power.

Just like its predecessor, the new Show 5 gets a bright 5-inch screen which lets users view content, see timers and even make video calls thanks to an in-built camera.

They look like nice updates but, before you take the plunge, beware.

Amazon has just announced a massive price cut to its popular Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock which makes these devices seem very enticing.

The standard Dot 5th Gen usually costs £54.99 but that price has been slashed to just £34.99 – that’s £10 cheaper than the new Pop.

Those wanting the Echo Dot with Clock will find this device now costs £44.99 which is a £20 saving off the standard £64.99 price.

Both of these speakers get improved sound, bigger bass and richer vocals. Yes, they are a little older than the new range from Amazon but they come packed with features at a much reduced price.
