AAAS Reaffirms Commitment to Foster DEI across STEMM Amid … – AAAS

For more than half a century, AAAS has been committed to fostering a more diverse, open and equitable scientific enterprise, which is essential to scientific excellence. To successfully tackle complex societal and scientific challenges, we must broaden the range of backgrounds, experiences and geographies at the table to maximize innovation, rigor and problem solving. Simultaneously, our pursuit of excellence must include and leverage the unique perspectives of historically excluded and marginalized communities.

Even as the legal landscape evolves, AAAS remains steadfast in our organizational imperative to increase opportunities and enable equitable pathways for all people to participate in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine. We strive to employ legally attentive strategies to enable structural changes and remove barriers, which will attract and support talent from all groups to join STEMM fields by:

  • Providing guidance to colleges and universities as they undergo sustainable institutional transformation in support of access, inclusion, and belonging across STEMM fields through our SEA Change Initiative
  • Equipping colleges and universities with Diversity and the Law tools and resources to navigate the legal and policy landscapes as they pursue this transformational change
  • Leading the STEMM Opportunity Alliance, a national initiative with cross-sector partners to make strategic and lasting systemic change that will drive equity and excellence in STEMM by 2050

We need more engagement in STEMM from all walks of life and every corner of the country, and we will continue to work with our partners and the broader STEMM community to realize this vision.
