Local enterprise Gabi's Pals seeks community support to empower workers with disabilities – WRAL.com

For Gabi Angelini, the
frustration was evident. Despite a bright spirit and a determined work ethic,
the job market presented an endless series of closed doors.

It’s a disheartening reality
for many. According the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 22.7% of people with disabilities were employed in 2024. That number ignited a mission for Gabi and her
mother, Mary Angelini.

That mission took shape as
Gabi’s Pals, an enterprise built on the simple yet powerful principle of
recognizing and celebrating the unique talents of individuals often overlooked.
What began as a small venture has blossomed into a thriving community.

Gabi’s Pals currently employs 40 people with a range of disabilities, and has a long waiting list of people eager to contribute their
skills. The demand to work for Gabi’s Pals is evident.

“I think people don’t realize that adults with special abilities are employable, that they’re great employees, that they’re more alike than different,” Mary Angelini said.

But it is more than
just a job. Gabi’s Pals provides a sense of belonging, purpose, and the dignity that
comes with meaningful work. Employees engage in various tasks, from assembling
and packaging.

However, the very success of
Gabi’s Pals has presented a new challenge: the need for greater resources to
accommodate the growing number of individuals seeking employment.

Gabi and Mary are actively seeking sponsors for their annual “Ghostly Gala,” a
fundraising event crucial to their efforts to hire and retain more workers. The funds raised directly support their operations, allowing them to create more job positions,
provide necessary training and support services, and empower more
individuals with disabilities to become active and contributing members of the
workforce.

In a society still grappling
with issues of inclusivity, Gabi’s Pals stands as a beacon of what is possible
when talent is recognized beyond perceived limitations.

As the Angelinis’ prepare for
their annual gala, they are not just seeking financial assistance; they are
inviting the community to become partners in a vision where everyone,
regardless of ability, has the chance to shine. Anyone that would like to contribute to the fundraiser is asked to call 919-274-1449.
