U.S. shares lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.69%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the fell 1.69%, while the index fell 1.51%, and the index declined 1.53%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Pfizer Inc (NYSE:), which rose 2.34% or 0.77 points to trade at 33.64 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:) added 1.01% or 1.25 points to end at 124.52 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 0.99% or 0.40 points to 40.72 in late trade.

Biggest losers included UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which lost 4.55% or 10.95 points to trade at 229.49 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:) declined 3.99% or 3.06 points to end at 73.60 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) shed 3.52% or 5.54 points to 151.85.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Arconic Inc (NYSE:) which rose 29.79% to 8.06, Apache Corporation (NYSE:) which was up 14.71% to settle at 5.38 and L Brands Inc (NYSE:) which gained 11.72% to close at 11.34.

The worst performers were Xerox Corp (NYSE:) which was down 8.55% to 16.90 in late trade, Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:) which lost 8.22% to settle at 18.32 and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:) which was down 8.08% to 10.58 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Biosig Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 42.38% to 5.14, Super League Gaming Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 42.03% to settle at 2.94 and Electrocore LLC (NASDAQ:) which gained 37.98% to close at 1.030.

The worst performers were Pensare Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 47.06% to 2.70 in late trade, NCS Multistage Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 29.98% to settle at 0.385 and Patriot National Bancorp Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.61% to 4.43 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2241 to 604 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1921 fell and 748 advanced, while 58 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.07% to 46.80.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.67% or 11.05 to $1648.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 14.42% or 3.65 to hit $28.97 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 16.33% or 4.89 to trade at $34.83 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.47% to 1.0805, while USD/JPY rose 0.52% to 108.47.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 100.750.
