U.S. Approaches 400,000 Coronavirus Infections

The U.S. recorded its deadliest day from the new coronavirus as China lifted its lockdown on the city that first detected the contagion that has spread across the world and is forcing more countries to prolong restrictions on daily life.

The U.S. recorded 1,939 deaths during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Tuesday—50% more than on any previous day of the pandemic, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University.
