POV: Above It All in This $10M Oregon Coast Home and Lighthouse

A home with a unique viewpoint is coming into focus on the Oregon coast.

The 7,442-square-foot home, with its own lighthouse, sits on almost 26 acres along the Pacific Ocean in Cloverdale, OR. The stunning property is listed for $10 million.

“The Oregon coast is beautiful and rugged—they call it the wilderness coast, and it’s exceptional in its beauty,” says Brian Ladd, with Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty. He is co-listing the property with Josh Reed. “I think what’s so iconic about this property is the setting.”

The four-bedroom retreat sits high on a peninsula. It is surrounded by ocean views on one side and vistas of the Nestucca River and farmland in all other directions.

“The way it’s situated up on this bluff, you’ve got the Pacific Ocean with beautiful cliffs down below and big waves rolling in,” Ladd says. “You’re looking down at the whales that go by.”

A 46-foot, lighthouse-like structure makes admiring the view even better. It has never been an operating lighthouse—just a cool element to the property, which was designed in 1996. The lighthouse was envisioned as an anchor to the house, Ladd explains.

“The architect really drew homage to what this type of property would be because of its prominence,” he says. “We have lighthouses up and down the Oregon coast; and generally, they are positioned on pieces of land that jut out into the ocean like this, because they were visible to boats.”

The home’s lighthouse is essentially a viewing tower with an elaborate spiral staircase.

“It took the trim carpenters over a year just to do the staircase and the wood leading up to that viewing tower,” Ladd says. “It’s the most incredible viewing tower that you’ve ever seen, and it’s just jaw-dropping when you stand up there.”

Ladd calls the home’s high-quality construction understated and ageless.

“The inside was to be timeless and kind of old-world-style, because it’s so easy to fall victim to trends and colors and countertops and things like that,” he explains. “They did more of a timeless design on the house that is going to look just as beautiful 20 and 50 years from now as it does today.”

A 900-square-foot caretaker’s apartment sits above the garage; and a 1,200-square-foot guesthouse is closer to the ocean, near the trees.

“It just feels like you’re hidden away,” Ladd notes. “While the main house is more dramatic, with views of the ocean and up and down the coast, this one is more secluded. You’re down in the trees; and it’s really just a beautiful, quiet spot to be in.”

A boathouse with a winch allows for river and ocean access, lending to the property’s retreat-like feel.

Ladd says the buyer will probably be someone looking for a legacy property—a home a family will cherish for years to come.
