Polestar Shares Details on Three New Models Coming by 2025 – Car and Driver

Polestar

Polestar has big plans for the next few years. Previously a name used for Volvo‘s performance models, Polestar has now become a subbrand with an electric lineup that currently includes the 2 electric sedan. The Swedish automaker plans to have that lineup grow to include four vehicles by 2024, hoping to increase sales from approximately 10,000 cars last year to 290,000 by 2025. These are the new Polestar models set to arrive in the near future.

Each of these electric vehicles is targeting 373 miles of driving range on the European WLTP cycle, which will likely translate to an EPA rating of over 300 miles in the U.S. They’ll use an 800-volt electrical architecture co-developed with Volvo and Lotus with a 103.0-kWh battery pack, and Polestar claims they will be able to charge to 80 percent in 20 minutes. The electrical architecture will allow for approximately 22 kilowatts of bidirectional charging to power a house and even other EVs. Polestar is also designing an electric motor that will produce 603 horsepower, and these future models will use a two-speed gearbox like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.

Polestar 3 (2022)

The Polestar 3 is a five-seat, two-row crossover that will arrive first, at the end of next year. Polestar says it’ll be similar in size, price, and performance to the Porsche Cayenne. “Our desires, aspirations are to be in that area of performance, design, and innovation,” Gregor Hembrough, head of Polestar USA, says about Porsche. It will offer single- and dual-motor configurations. Pricing is expected to start at around $75,000. This initial photo from Polestar shows a camouflaged prototype of the 3 and gives a good idea of its overall shape and proportions.

Polestar 4 (2023)

Polestar has only shared an image of the 4 SUV covered in a white sheet, but the company describes it as a coupe-like crossover, and it’s aimed at the Porsche Macan. We expect it to be somewhat smaller than the 3, but it should feature similar styling. The 4 is likely to carry a starting price in the mid-$50,000 range.

Polestar 5 (2024)

Previewed by the Precept concept, the 5 will serve as the brand’s flagship. This photo released by Polestar shows the production model, which looks remarkably similar to the concept version shown previously. Polestar likes to think of it as a competitor to the Porsche Panamera, and it’ll compete with other luxury electric sedans such as the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and Lucid Air. Pricing is expected to start around $100,000.
