Ketel One Botanical, Maurice Harris Affirm Spritz Season Is Here With New Collection

Spritz season is officially here, and for anyone ready to dispute the relevancy of the trendy, low-ABV, carbonated beverage, according to LA-based floral designer Maurice Harris, the spritz isn’t going out of style any time soon.

“Every year someone thinks that animal print is going out of season–it never goes away, people love it,” Harris told Forbes, adding that “in the same way, people love an easy drink [like a spritz].”

The concept of easy drinking and easy entertaining is at the core of Harris’ latest collaboration with Ketel One Botanical–the premium vodka from the Netherlands, distilled with real botanicals and infused with natural fruit and botanical essences. This season, the duo introduces the Spritz Into Summer Collection, a series of products available on thebar.com–from tea towels to glassware–all themed around Ketel One’s Botanical Spritz–built by adding sparkling water to one of three Ketel One Botanical varietals; Peach & Orange Blossom, Cucumber & Mint, and Grapefruit & Rose.

“Ketel One Botanical is really interesting because they are tapping into the herbal essence of it all; the things we see in nature that feel more organic,” Harris shared. “I felt like our synergy was very connected—we’re both interested in ease, elevated experiences and, to point out the obvious, they are floral varietals.”

As the visionary behind the bespoke floral design studio, Bloom & Plume, in Echo Park, Los Angeles, Harris is renowned for his whimsical arrangements, placing flowers with fruit, fronds and decor items in a seemingly uncalculated bouquet. “I want everything I do to look easy, it’s not easy, it’s incredibly difficult but I want it to look effortless, like it just happened that way,” shared Harris.

For Harris, this typically translates to treating each arrangement as its own entity, which is exactly how he tied together the floral arrangements he created for the Spritz Into Summer Collection. “I love to give my arrangements personalities,” said Harris. “So, I gave each of the varietals a personality and then interpreted that through a floral bouquet.”

Harris explained that for Cucumber & Mint, the arrangement is green and tropical to match the refreshing, cooling effect of the flavors typically found in a day at the spa. Grapefruit & Rose is the quintessential welcoming of spritz season, so it’s a rose-forward bouquet, and “a little more ladies who lunch,” according to Harris. Lastly, Peach & Orange Blossom “is your party girl,” he says, this personality is “easy breezy, goes with the flow and might wear a little blue mascara.”

As part of the summer collection, consumers can buy an amalgam of these arrangements in the form of one preserved bouquet designed by Harris. Other products in the collection include a trio of cocktail towels patterned with Harris’ floral displays, colored wine glasses from Estelle Colored Glass, rose-shaped ice molds, cocktail picks and garnish bowls. Items from the collaboration can be purchased individually or as the entire collection, which Harris added makes for an exceptional host gift.

“We’ve been in a time when everyone is isolated so to be able to come together is wonderful,” emphasized Harris, stressing that during these new times of connectivity, “nobody wants to be a mixologist” making complicated drinks when the gathering should instead be about ease and a good time.

“The Botanical Spritz is simple, already beautiful and refreshing,” said Harris, circling back to the focal point of the collaboration: “It’s about being effortless but still being elevated.”

The Spritz Into Summer Collection officially launches on May 19 on thebar.com with a live shopping event hosted by Harris (live.thebar.com).
