Imagine A World Without NAND Flash

Kioxia, formerly Toshiba Memory, is credited for inventing NAND flash memory back in 1987. From its humble beginnings as a storage medium in digital answering machines, NAND flash has become a disruptive technology in the past few decades, making its way into digital cameras, smartphones, laptop computers, and storage. Process and production advances keep increasing bit capacity while decreasing cost, and the technology shows no signs of going away.

Because flash memory is present in many products we may not realize, Kioxia’s subsidiary Kioxia America just released a video, titled “A World Without Smart Devices,” which essentially depicts an alternate reality where flash-enabled smart home technology does not exist.
